GM to Build $130M Data Center in Warren

General Motors will construct a $130 million enterprise data center at its technical center campus in Warren, MI, renovating and expanding an existing administrative building and adding 25 jobs.
Design of the Information Technology (IT) Operations and Command Center is under way, with the final phase of construction scheduled for completion in 2015.
GM will consolidate its IT operations at the new center, reducing operating costs and cutting energy use by 40%. GM expects the facility to qualify for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification by the U.S. Green Building Council.
The new data center will contain IT laboratories and serve as a hub for monitoring GM's digital applications globally. It will be built in a modular design enabling future expansion for handling increasingly complex computer simulations needed to keep pace with faster design, fuel economy, safety and quality requirements.
The announcement is part of the $2 billion in U.S. investment that GM recently announced for 17 facilities in eight states. This is on top of $3.4 billion invested and 9,000 jobs created or retained in the United States since mid-2009.
